Living the Dream
Like many of us we all have dreams.
One of my dreams was to sail the Pacific, which was also a lifelong dream of my Father’s. Together we built Pop’s Dream a 35ft steel yacht spending several years to achieve, unfortunately I was the only one who got to sail as my father had passed away.
During these years I owned a business in Christchurch New Zealand, Uncle Kev’s Woodwork Shop where I made wooden toys, furniture and repaired musical instruments. I diversified from this business when an opportunity arose to work in Papua New Guinea in the Oil and Gas Industry.
My first boyhood dream was to become a fireman and while working in my business and building a yacht I volunteered as a firefighter with Sumner Fire Brigade and donated 17yrs of volunteer service earning the Queens Service Medal along for Long Service and Good Conduct. I formed lifelong friendships from various industries and walks of life and in times of need we worked as one.
I achieved my dream and sailed from New Zealand to Tonga (where I met my wife Nikki) and while I was working in Papua New Guinea on a 4-week rotation roster, we spent 2 yrs in the Pacific sailing around Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu before arriving in Bundaberg and I am now settled in Brisbane Qld.
My passion has been rekindled with the events of Covid 19 to reinstate my Wood Working business, now called WoodnThings Australia formally Uncle Kev’s Workshop some 35years later. My passion is to create wooden toys for children. It gives me the greatest of pleasure to see their joy when they interact with the animated toys while also developing their minds and skills from play.
The skills children learn from play and laughter will bestow them foreverafter to follow their dreams as I have done.
Dreams as a boy:-
To become a fireman
Have a job that I enjoy
To sail and travel the world
Finally my dream is to build a successful business with a passion that I love and
see and bring joy at Christmas and keep the spirit alive
Kids are magical – They are a blank canvas waiting to become a masterpiece.
